WELCOME to the Marlborough School Library! ... this is how our old library looked... For information about exciting news on building ARC -- Academic Resource Center -- please go to the Marlborough School main page:-)

We take this opportunity to welcome you and introduce many of our programs, services, and fine resources, both print and electronic that you will be able to access throughout your Marlborough School years. This is also a good time to get to know one another, so let's introduce our staff:

Dr. Ercegovac, Head, Library Department -->

Ms. Michaelson, Assistant Librarian

Chances are that you will often see your parents in the Library -- they are helpful to us in making sure that all the materials you
need are available and ready to be used.
  • Library Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Thursday; we close at 4 PM on Fridays and days before holidays.
  • Collections: We have one of the finest collections among independent schools: about 22,000 volumes, CDs, DVDs, more than 70 magazines, 3 major national newspapers, fiction, online databases, rich reference resources, and experienced staff.
  • Organization: We organize collections according to Dewey Decimal Classification, from 000 [general materials] to 999 [history & geography].
  • TOUR of the Library -- all new students will have a live library orientation in the Library! Starting Fall 2007, we have extended our orientation sessions to all new employees, including faculty and staff. On demand tours can be arranged. Please drop us a note to request a tour especially for your department or for special projects. Click below for your own virtual library orientation.
  • Online databases are password protected and you will be provided with IDs and passwords on separately prepared fact-sheets. Many of these online resources are at the Marlborough School Library Website, go to academics and visit the library link.
  • Research skills: since our collections are many, you will be visiting us frequently with teachers, in small groups or alone. We will schedule classes in the Library for specific projects.
  • Laptops: You will be able to check-out laptops and use them in our wireless library spaces; each time you check out a laptop, you will sign in your name and sign off as you return the laptop back to the cart.
  • Other services and resources:
  • Circulation: non reference materials circulate; items may be renewed if no others have requested them.
  • Copy machine: there is a black/white copier; each page costs $.10 to support supplies and repairs; you will purchase copy cards in our bookstore; there is a printer located next to the library catalog.
  • Our temporary library is fully functional and "cozy" as our students describe; see the brief video below.
  • SUGGESTION BOX: please suggest ways to improve the temp library here. Email me your comments, praises, recommendations.
Rules of conduct:
The Library is an "unofficial" place of relaxation and conversation; preferential library usage is to those using it in a manner most conductive to research and study.
The entire interim library is Quiet space, reserved for those who need to study quietly.
No food or beverage (except bottled water).

Check out this website for your projects.

As always, send us your comments!
ENJOY

I think that this blog is very helpful to know what is what and when it opens but i think it needs more pictures so you can kind of see what everything looks like and so you will be prepared and know about it.

I was pleased with the Library Catalog because it made my book searching a whole lot easier. It might help if their was a virtual library tour, controlled by arrow keys, inlcuded so you could see what the library sections looked like or else an easy to read map so we can be prepared when we walk in. Otherwise, excellently done!

One thing I would like in the new library would be lots of comfy chairs and more tables so you can be with your friends, but in an academic, comfortable environment. I also found the blog VERY helpful and enjoyed looking through it.

I think that the library needs a room full of comfy couches and chairs with tables alongside them for doing homework. The library should have a mellow, cozy vibe for those who come to read for pleasure or those who come to research and do work. A relaxed workspace and comfortable atmosphere might spur us on academically. I also think that the library should have a space filled with tables to read and work on the laptops. This blog is very helpful.

I think the new library should have many comfortable couches and chairs, so we (Marlborough girls) can relax as we do our homework and research. Also, there should be lots of flowers to lighten up the mood a bit and make it a relaxing space. I also think there should be spaces where students' art work would be hung. It would be fun seeing other people's work. Also, this blog was very helpful on how the library works!

I think the new library should have bean bags to set a relaxed atmosphere. Also a nice open study space would be helpful.

I think that the new library should have plenty of space to hold the numerous books but still have a warm and cozy atmosphere about it.

I think that the new library should have a lot of comfortable chairs for people to read in. I think it should also have areas with tables and chairs where people can discuss books and other things.
